Job Purpose:

Responsible for planning, directing, and guiding the activities of the site’s Quality Control Laboratory and Quality Systems. Supervises department employees to ensure a zero incident mindset regarding safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.


Principal Tasks and Accountabilities:

• Responsible for establishing and maintaining a zero incident mindset in the Quality Lab.
• Performs analytical QC tests on finished products and other materials as required
• Reviews plant process and analytical data to identify and lead quality and productivity improvements
• Plans, directs, and guides the day-to-day activities of the Quality Lab Analysts and casuals. Supports quality lab standards. Ensures that all quality protocols and procedures are followed. Serves as the site lab’s technical expert. Trains lab employees relative to technical topics. Conducts all principle duties of a Lab Analyst as required for plant operation. Creates and oversees instrumentation maintenance and preventive maintenance programs. Facilitates/drives and actively participates in analytical method and cleaning validation programs.
• Drives compliance to the Contamination Prevention Standard.
• Troubleshoots and drives quality continuous improvement projects for the plant. Troubleshoots formulation, manufacturing process, and analytical test method issues. Completes assigned Unusual Incident Report (UIR) investigations and corrective actions.
• Drives plant equipment washing and laboratory test method validation programs. Creates and maintains batch sheets, department databases, and CoAs.
• Trains staff in safe and efficient work techniques. Evaluates direct reports and completes relevant documentation.
• Serves as the lead Quality representative on site. This includes material quality disposition decisions and escalation, cross-contamination prevention leadership, and corporate Quality Standard compliance. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements related to the Quality Department’s activities.


Experience and Qualifications:

• Safety/Quality/Regulatory Compliance: Strong understanding of Zero Incident Mindset.
• Education & Experience: Requires a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely-related field, plus a minimum of 3 -5 years of appropriate laboratory experience. A graduate degree is a plus.
• Analytical Skills: Requires strong understanding of modern laboratory analytical instrumentation, including but not limited to HPLC’s. Possesses strong expertise relative to data-driven decision making.

  1. Maintain good client relations by handling all customer service inquiries, concerns, issues and ensuring consistent quality.
  2. Work closely with client Production Supervisors, Group Leaders and Human Resource staff to identify areas of needed improvement.
  3. Contact the Staffing Specialist ASAP for employee replacements.
  4. Work closely with client Production and Human Resources to gather information needed to complete employee evaluations.
  5. Identify areas of needed improvement and implement a corrective action plan. If warranted, initiate disciplinary procedures up to & including termination.
  6. Assist in identifying absent employees ASAP.
  7. Conduct new hire employee orientations on site (general safety, location of first aid, time clocks, break rooms, rest rooms, etc.)
  8. Responsible for maintaining employee Roster daily to ensure accuracy of data.
  9. Distribute safety equipment as needed.
  10. Responsible for conducting daily “safety sweeps”.
